Vintage Swiss Military Bread bag. freaking awesome.

David found them, and I have to say… very cool.

ORIGINAL USE: Used by soldiers to carry bread rations
ABOUT THE MAKER:
Sattler is the name for an old, traditional profession.  Sattler’s make fabric and leather products for equestrianism, carriages and cars. After a three year of apprenticeship, you can still become Sattler today.
ORGINS + ERA:
Swiss. Bags range from 1950’s- 1980’s
CONSTRUCTION:
Most bags with a significant amount of weight tend to give out at the seams, but these are built to last.  The stress points (the points where the seams would tear due to stress, especially the lip of the bag) have been reinforced several times.
Built with tightly-woven heavy duty canvas, heavy duty saddle leather, steel rivets, and a substantial clamshell lid of heavy gauge leatherette 
* Canvas main compartment and two interior pockets.  
* Leather belt loops are at the top for attachment   to a belt for hip carrying. 
* The actual hardware (loops, straps and trim) are      ..all adjustable to suit your requirements. 
COLOR VARIATION:
The brown canvas comes in various shades with a well-worn patina, no two are alike.
MARKINGS:
The back leather strap is stamped on every bag with the year it was made as well as either the soldier it was issued to or the town it was made in.  Some bags have been ‘customized’ by their former solider owners.including names, dates, or even just numbers written on the backs of bags by the guys who used them.  
SCALE: 10” H x 10” W x 4.5 D
CONDITION:
Used and In solid worn-in condition. Given the 
 vintage nature, each item is uniquely worn.
