Camp Wandawega
This sweet spot tucked away in Elkhorn, WI, actually boasts somewhat of a shady past: In 1925, it served as a speakeasy during Prohibition before becoming a hotbed for organized crime (and ladies of the night) in 1930. But, by the ‘50s, Wandawega had cleaned up its act, becoming an idyllic lakeside resort for families. And, in 2012, David Hernandez and Tereasa Surratt engineered its latest transformation: a Wes Anderson-inspired getaway for hip Chicagoans looking to escape the hubbub of the city.
Weddings at Camp Wandawega are weekend affairs, where guests stay in cabins and teepees on the grounds, and couples tie the knot among the 103,072 trees on property. But, the fun doesn’t stop there. The agenda includes classic activities like swimming, rope swinging, and stargazing — but unlike the camp experience of your youth, this time you’ll have access to booze.
