But THIS MAKES IT ALL WORTH IT…
(See salondawega FILM on vimeo)
Most folks don’t know that for the short 5 or so months that we’re open each year – we try to donate the camp to artistic organizations, and for the general pursuit of happiness for not-for-profit groups, as much as reasonably possible.
One such group is Salonathon, a ‘genre-defying art’ group out of Chicago. Every year we open our gates to their curated artist-in-residence retreat, designed for participants to sharpen their work-in-progress performances by “workshopping it in the wild” among a group of creative peers.
Last night we received the film & pics of their most recent retreat, and it reminded us why we do all of this. You’ll see it all in the clip – in true artistic freeform, from boozy yoga, fire dancing to half-dressed moonlit performances, they don’t hold back. What we see is a new generation of artists set lose in the wild to shed their inhibitions and gain a new perspective to take back to their urban lives.
Our hope it to be able to offer more of these type of retreats for not-for-profits. (From a financial perspective, we would have fired ourselves long ago if our task was to run a proper business). But our souls have never felt richer and that’s what makes it all worth it at the end of the day.
So we will welcome Salonathon, the Church groups, the schools, the kids, the mass in the grass, the land preservation groups again next year as much as our schedule allows. And the year after that. And the year after that.
TO SALONATHON: thank you for pumping this old place full of life, art & love. You have just added to the collective residual energy of this old place. And we thank you for it.
Much Love,
– Tereasa, David, Charlie & Frankie.
