MATCHBOOK RACK: $5 (junkstore) A GROCERY SACK FULL OF MATCHBOOKS: FREE (thanks, will!) HAVING A BAZILLION VINTAGE DESIGNS ON A WALL TO ROTATE: pricelessss. i cant imagine who on earth had the patience to collect these things, but they are very cool. THE LIVES THEY LEFT BEHIND.

i have always been obsessed with stuff like this. my friend Angela & I nearly embarked on a similiar project…. its an insanely emotional journey to sift through the remnants of someones life as told through what they’ve left behind. (i think thats why i always drag david into abandoned houses, attics and basements) here is WONDERFUL example of a photographer documenting through photography– the individual stories of asylum patients in NYC. More than four hundred abandoned suitcases filled with patients’ belongings were found when Willard Psychiatric Center closed in 1995 after 125 years of operation. They are skillfully examined…

 we met some new friends- that ride a Harley. and live in Wisconsin. whos names are Theresa and Charlie. an easy project.

a table decoration for charlies birthday party was to create a mini tree of birds.. nothing could be easier. found the birdies online, and attached them to a brand with their little wired feet. afterwards, i tied it to the ceiling beams of the kitchen for a permanent way to bring the outdoors in 🙂 pick up the birds at floraltrims.com a birthday present for charlie from daddy- an antique swing (that is more like a suspended rocking horse) we found out quickly that you have to spot a 1-year-old on a swing like this. another guest gift from the…

latest project: design a lounge for STEPPENWOLF….

it was one of the most challenging projects ever…. Design a bar, lounge, reception, swag sales, coffee bar, and new entryway for the Garage Theatre at Steppenwolf on Halsted. The trick was that their budget was so tiny that it had to be done largely via Found Free & Flea. My partner in crime and I WILLIAM GOLDEN hit every yardsale, flea market, junkshop in 6 counties. DISCOVERED: 1950’s vacation footage of wandawega

years ago, the Chicago Tribune did a story on Camp Wandawega, and soon after, folks starting coming out of the woodwork to tell us stories of visits to our little camp in their youth… one such gentleman came to visit and came bearing some old super 8 film- check it out here another family brought us stacks of old photographs… their grandparents took over the place in the 40’s, then their parents owned it in the 50’s… before it was finally sold to the catholic church (the latvia marion fathers)- who turned it into the summercamp that david attended. here…
