brooklyn love affair part one: SPROUT HOME

I spent a day in Brooklyn with my friend Angela of POST27 store a couple of weeks ago and found so many lovely places that I had to share: First up: our friend Tara of SPROUT HOME.  (Her shop in Chicago is just a few blocks away on Damen at Chicago Ave.) But this is the first time we’ve paid her Brooklyn store a visit. Swoon! She has a fresh cut shop, and a couple doors down her full boutique. Some snaps from her space(s).  And for good measure, a few snaps I stole from her gallery: (LOVE)

Warby Parker Class Trip

Warby Parker has some of the best glasses and some of the best prices. Vintage inspired, comfortable and affordable, anyone who buys a pair is instantly happy. At some point this wonderful company came up with the idea to remodel an old school bus and travel around the United States to bring their showroom experience to the masses, via the Warby Parker Class Trip. 6 months. 9 cities. glass wear stylists. jokes. fun. photography. adventure. Sounds like a blast! Check out the thought process behind the journey, the design process behind creating their mobile showroom and the beautiful travel log…

A Rainy Day surprise

when charlie got home from school yesterday,  she was met at the door with a lovely polka-dot box. inside she found a giant bird’s nest of woodshavings. and after digging her way to the bottom, she discovered tucked away a  GOLDEN HORSE WEARING A PARTY HAT. and in invitation to a birthday party from our friends at Land Of Nod . i love it. but not as much as she does. (she now totes her ratatouille in one arm and the horse in the other) (…and I seriously need to step up on invitation design after seeing this thing) some outtakes…

P.A.R.

I am a sucker for great graphic design. The other day I came across a company called P.A.R. based out of Barcelona. Their graphics are modern and fresh with a vintage twist. I am particularly drawn to their Strata Bakery project and their Shooting with Garlic project. Clean lines with colors and type that make a nod towards the past. Great seal, too! Can’t wait to see what else they come up with!  Best of both worlds if you ask me. Plus, they are dolls! Check out more here.

submission to HOARDERS.

Our basement is a hellhole. Really and truly…an episode of Hoarders without exaggeration. It’s that dark space that we try to hide when folks come over. We deny that it’s there but they always find it. So, last weekend after nearly a decade of failing to avoid the ugly truth, we put on gloves and hip-waders and literally dug ourselves out. Out of the mind-numbing culmination of 80 years of old trash that consumed our basement: skeletal mice, canisters of hardened cleaners from the Hoover administration…really, too painful to get into much detail here. The good news? There is a plan! Inspired by the parred-down simplicity of…
