david did, that is.how often does your husband pick out a pair of shoes for you that you like? there is a lady we know in elkhorn that always seems to find the most unusual stuff. based on the heel nails, the leather, and the markings-we are guessing they date back to somewhere between the late 1800’s up to the possibly the teens. victorian women had at least two pair of shoes- their dress heels (remember the high-ankle, button up, tight- fitting black leather – pointy -toed shoes that the wicked witch of the west wore?) anda daily pair of…

sometimes I get some really fun assignments at work. this one was an interior design project- and we just wrapped it. We needed to create an immersive brand experience, one that told the story of the heritage of the Steppenwolf theatre while at the same time asthetically embracing the ‘backstage’ garage theatre roots. Wandawega Lake Resort was listed at the time as a hotel renting a dozen rooms.regulations were quite different back in 1939 (when this was published) these were some of my favorite rules: every rented tourist cabins and rooming house must have:* a slop jar* a chamber pot* washstand and washbowl other random laws:* indecent pictures or words are forbiden in toilet rooms* sprinkle floor with sawdust & water before sweeping to keep dust down*…
photos from a workday.i love the architecture here.even the casting office is a teeny little space that has these perfectly exposed walls, gigantic oversized candles and an insane collection of art books.
working 15 hour days is at least tolerable when you get to stay in a place that is such a radical departure from our reality of a livingroom knee deep with baby toys. (i love the wallpaper in my room so much it physically hurts) i really dont want to go home do my sink full of dishes now… so — were stumbling ’round the londontown streets looking for our casting office, i happened by a little shop. the same shop i stumbled across a couple of months ago on my last trip here. THE CLOTH HOUSE. serious. love. and-…
