time capsule…

He was in his 70s and said he vacationed here (at camp) when he was a boy. he came bearing photos. which were so charming and humble they were heartbreakingly adorable. so when they told us that they had an entire photo album full of images of his vacation at wandawega… i almost lost my mind. so we paid them a visit in the burbs last sunday… brought our portable scanner- and documented several years of vacations at camp wandawega (circa 1940s). thanks, Judy & Jerry! here are some (new / old) shots….   last week a charming elderly couple…

BEFORE CHAINSAWS…

i registered for a chainsaw for our wedding registry. its lovely and red and just my size, and can take down a substantial tree. (at least i thought that a 20ft tree was substantial, until i saw this….) my brother sam in an arborist, treeman and true jack of all trades, master of all. he just sent me these pics…. omg, sam.

A Pleasant Surprise

Recently an elderly couple paid us a surprised visit. He said that he had vacationed at Wandawega Lake Resort with his family back in the ’40s, or was it the ’50s? He had stories of dinner at the “gourmet” Polish restaurant (now the main lodge)… and how it was converted to a “activity lodge” following dinner. He told us stories of how the owner would open the window in the restaurant after dinner and let in the friendly raccoon, who would travel from table to table begging for table scraps from the customers, and for dessert would sit on the…

FOUND PHOTOS… Wandawega 1937

her name was irene. she met him in 1920 at her childhood summer cottage on the shores of lake wandawega. they married in the 1940s. they would spend the rest of their lives together. Irene had two sisters – they all grew up together spending summers at the cabin. she moved to arizona, but would make the pilgrimage back to the lake house remember where she learned how to fish, build a stone chimney, row a boat and fall in love.

THE WANDAWEGA FILM WAS FROM 1937. & FOUND IN AN ABANDONED TRUNK.

this is how it went down:while googling wandawega on vimeo,i found a film from 1937 of a group of  rowdy lake party goers. it featured on woman in particular… shot on the shores of lake wandawega –  the film was called ‘the unknown woman’. in the description of the film it says: “Reel #27
