Sounds like a blast! Check out the thought process behind the journey, the design process behind creating their mobile showroom and the beautiful travel log…

thrifting for useful items

I love going thrifting and rummaging through antique stores to find one of a kind items. But these places are also good for finding items that can be used in your everyday life. It’s not only, usually designed better, but it is also green, because you are using things that have been made and forgotten.I went on a journey this past weekend to collect some special finds that could be used around Camp Wandawega and this is what I found. We found these really great vintage billiard chalk cubes that are in great shape and are perfect for use with…

BUY THIS HOUSE! your mortgage would only be $1350 a month.

Think about this: rent it for 1 week a month and pay your mortgage. And then you can invite us up for a weekend. This place is so lovely that it breaks my heart.(but that gross futon also breaks my heart) check it out: WHERE IT CAME FROM The house was first built – much over a hundred years ago – between Castalia and Ossian, Iowa, about 20 miles south of where it is now. The house was first built when Iowa became available for settlement.  The logs are mostly oak, with some later replacements with whatever was available.  The house…

A Rainy Day surprise

when charlie got home from school yesterday,  she was met at the door with a lovely polka-dot box. inside she found a giant bird’s nest of woodshavings. and after digging her way to the bottom, she discovered tucked away a  GOLDEN HORSE WEARING A PARTY HAT. and in invitation to a birthday party from our friends at Land Of Nod . i love it. but not as much as she does. (she now totes her ratatouille in one arm and the horse in the other) (…and I seriously need to step up on invitation design after seeing this thing) some outtakes…

I found Rachel Corry, shoemaker through Refinery29 and fell in love with her space and her shoes. All of her shoes are hand made in her cabin in Bolina, Ca. Simple, clean and great for summertime fun. She found her space on craigslist and has created a beautiful and inspiring studio away from the busy city life of San Francisco. (photo by Michelle Drewes) (photo by Michelle Drewes)

A sign painter at heart.

Sign painting as a craft has a special place in my heart. I grew up with a sign painter mother. So from junior high on- learning the craft from her…lettering everything from pickup truck doors to store windows in the farm town of 5000 I grew up in.(Beardstown, Illinois). I learned enough to talk my way into a job at $6.50 and hour to work for Weatherford Signs in Carbondale, Illinois. The shop was- and is in some respects one of the best in the midwest, and was considered ‘sign school’ at the time.It was at the end of gravel road in…

P.A.R.

I am a sucker for great graphic design. The other day I came across a company called P.A.R. based out of Barcelona. Their graphics are modern and fresh with a vintage twist. I am particularly drawn to their Strata Bakery project and their Shooting with Garlic project. Clean lines with colors and type that make a nod towards the past. Great seal, too! Can’t wait to see what else they come up with!  Best of both worlds if you ask me. Plus, they are dolls! Check out more here.
